About MoRST

The Ministry of Research, Science and Technology (MoRST) is a New Zealand government department which develops research and innovation policies. MoRST manages the publicly funded part of the RS&T system on behalf of the Government. Our Māori name, Te Manatū Pūtaiao, means "the Ministry for Science".

MoRST works at the high level of policies, strategies and statistics. We contract other agencies to manage the funding of research and innovation projects carried out by research organisations.

Our major outcome is: getting measurable benefits from New Zealand's investment in research, science and technology.
