What is the Biotechnology Taskforce?

The Biotechnology Taskforce is made up of representatives from the biotechnology sector and co-chaired by the Minister of Research, Science and Technology, and Bill Falconer, Chair of Biotenz.

The Taskforce’s role was to report to the Government on what the biotechnology industry needed in order to stimulate growth in its own sector and to enable biotechnology to fuel growth across the economy.

It reported back in May 2003 with 28 recommendations for action and an ambitious 10-year vision for the sector.

This report, and the work of the Taskforce, heavily influenced the “Growing the Sector” goal of the Government’s Biotechnology Strategy.

What is the Government doing?

The Government endorsed the intent of most of the actions in the Biotechnology Taskforce report. It is implementing a plan of action in response to these.
