Environment Research Roadmap
The Environment Research Roadmap is a strategy document that helps guide environmental research in New Zealand. (2007)
July 2008 Update
- We analysed the barriers to integrating multidisciplinary research on environmental systems. This will help us improve environmental research integration.
As part of the Transformational RS&T work we consulted on the biophysical and social aspects of urban research.
- We are developing an action plan for environmental data management, which will involve workshops in the coming months.
- We evaluated the two-year-old Envirolink scheme and found it is working well. This scheme provides $1.6m a year to help smaller regional councils gain access to science advice and develop resource management tools. The scheme may be extended to district and city councils and departments.
- The recently-created New Zealand Climate Change Centre will assist with climate change science collaboration and integration. This will happen through multi-disciplinary meetings and periodic reports on climate change-related issues. The Centre is a joint initiative between all nine Crown Research Institutes, the University of Canterbury and Victoria University of Wellington.
- We are working with the Ministry of Fisheries on an integrated marine science strategy.
