Work programme

MoRST recognises that a wide variety of organisations are involved in communication of science, technology and related issues. Our role is to develop the policy framework and to support the development of effective communication initiatives.

Development of different communication processes

The work programme has an emphasis on 3 different communication processes to meet the different needs of New Zealanders:

Biotechnology Futurewatch

Research to give an understanding of future issues that may challenge New Zealanders trust and confidence. You can find out more about futurewatch under Biotechnology.

Initiatives for specific audiences

  • Government officials: the Bio-issues Forum is designed to meet the need of government agencies to understand the science behind issues of concern to government.
  • School students: support for initiatives to give information on biotechnology and to celebrate excellent science and technology students.
  • Journalists: support of Royal Society of New Zealand initiatives to increase coverage of science issues in the media.

People at MoRST working in the Science in Society area include:
Richard Meylan, Principal Adviser
Katherine Silvester, Principal Adviser
Robert Hickson, Senior Adviser (Bio–issues Forums)
Justin Brownlie, Communications Manager
