Research Infrastructure

Research infrastructure is a high-cost facility or piece of equipment needed to support the New Zealand's research and science capability. MoRST has been investigating how investment in research infrastructure is supported by the Government.

This work has been informed by two recent investment cases; the Synchrotron and the Advanced Network (now known as KAREN).

Research Infrastructure Advisory Group

In June 2005 the Minister announced the establishment of the Research Infrastructure Advisory Group (RIAG).  It was established to provide advice on cases put to the Government for high-cost facilities or equipment needed to support the country’s research and science capability.

RIAG's role is to provide MoRST with expert advice on the scientific merit of particular proposals.
