February 2008 update
Recent collaboration
The Tertiary Education Commission (TEC), Foundation for Research, Science and Technology (FRST) and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) are working together on several trial projects.
One of these projects is the development of a superconductor with the potential to carry high electrical currents. Christchurch-based General Cable and Industrial Research Ltd (IRL) are working together to develop high-temperature superconducting wire (HTS) for use as a component in AC power transformers, DC generators and large electrical motors.
Recent investments
The Foundation for Research, Science and Technology is investing $29.5 million yearly through the New Materials, Technologies and Services investment process. This is provided through the Research for Industry and New Economies Research Fund output classes. New Materials, Technologies and Services (NMTS) 2007/08 investment on the FRST website
New investment for the Pre-Seed Accelerator Fund began on 1 January 2008. The Fund has been changed to make co-funding easier. PreSeed Accelerator Fund (PreSeed) on the FRST website
