Privacy Policy

Modern information and communication technologies play a fundamental role in the activities of an organisation like the Ministry of Research, Science & Technology. These technologies can impact on your personal privacy.

We are committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. This privacy policy tells you that when you visit MoRST's website we only collect the personal information that you actively give us. The policy states:

  • how we store the personal information that you give us
  • what purposes the personal information is used for
  • what rights you have in relation to the personal information we hold.

Anonymous access

You can access our website home page and browse our site without disclosing your personal information. We do not automatically log personal information nor do we link information automatically logged by other means with personal information about specific individuals.

The only personal information we collect about you is the information that you give us. There are two ways that you can give us information:

  • by entering your personal details in the registration page of this website
  • by emailing your personal details to us at talk2us@morst.govt.nz.

What information do we collect?

We collect the personal information that you volunteer while using our services. This usually includes your name, physical address, email address, phone number, and job title. We do not collect information about our visitors from other sources, such as public records or bodies, or private organisations.

What will we use your information for?

We use your personal information only for the purpose that you gave it to us. For instance, if you registered to receive Ministry publications, your personal information will only be used to send you those publications. Your data will be added to a Ministry database. What your information will be used for depends on what you register for on our website. The two registration types are:

  • registering for email updates - the information you provide will be used to send you regular emails about MoRST and RS&T in New Zealand.
  • registering for eConsultations - the information you provide will be used to allow you to provide feedback on topics of interest, ensure each submitter makes only one unique submission, and for statistical analysis of submission responses.

Who can access your information?

You can access the information that we hold about you. Simply email us at talk2us@morst.govt.nz and, within one month, we will provide you with a readable copy of the personal information which we keep about you. We may require proof of your identity before we provide you with this information. The information will be provided free of charge. Our employees can access your information. All our employees, who have access to, and are associated with the processing of personal information, are obliged to respect the confidentiality of our visitors' personal information. The data is protected, by technical methods, from:

  • unauthorised access

Other visitors to our web site cannot access the personal information that you volunteer. We do not disclose your personal information to other organisations without first obtaining your consent. We ensure that your personal information is not disclosed to any non-Ministry employee except if required by law or other regulation.

What if I want to change my personal information?

Just email us at talk2us@morst.govt.nz if you would like to change any information that the Ministry holds on you. The Ministry likes to ensure that its information is current so let us know if you need changes made.

How long will we keep your personal information for?

We will keep your personal information for as long as necessary to achieve the purpose we collected it for. Periodically we will check that you still want us to retain your information. You can at any time request that your information be de-registered and removed from our database.
