Cabinet decision

Budget decisions are made by the Cabinet, not individual Ministers.

Each Minister makes a bid for their Vote. This bid outlines the Minister's investment priorities. In any one year the amount of new money available is limited. Ministers must convince Cabinet that their bid has priority over bids from other Votes. Trade-offs and compromise are the hallmarks of this process. Cabinet decides how much new money (if any) Vote RS&T gets.
